On a hill in Ankara stands the Hacı Bayram Mosque, built in 1427, directly adjacent to the ruins of the Temple of Augustus. To better accommodate the flow of worshippers, the city administration proposed the construction of a new abdesthane, a ritual ablution hall. The design envisions a stone “curtain” composed of prefabricated, perforated, and pigmented concrete elements, conceived as a continuation of the ancient ruins. The entrance is formed by a subtle inward fold in the facade. Traditional ornamental patterns serve as the basis for the concrete elements, translating historical motifs into a contemporary architectural language. The city administration decided to adopt and further develop the proposal.
