The design seeks to create the ideal of a “village on the edge of the city” through a variety of building volumes. The combination of open and enclosed buildings creates a diverse range of open spaces. While the linear buildings define the settlement edges and emphasise the street spaces, point buildings of varying scale and character subdivide the open space into diverse areas with different uses. In terms of scale, materiality, and architectural expression, the new buildings draw an analogy to the existing “Heimatstil” buildings of the first development phase, while maintaining an independent and function-oriented character. The distinction between large-scale linear buildings and finely articulated point buildings reinforces the heterogeneous spatial structure of the open spaces within the settlement.
